2 People, Cultures and Bridges Project Seixal With a total population of about 160,000 inhabitants, about 20% of the population is immigrant or descendant of immigrants, being mostly from Portuguese speaking countries. Location:

4 People, Cultures and Bridges Project Specific Goals Goal1 Developing training of teachers in order to improve skills in the context of Development and Intercultural Education Activities 1.1 Training on Intercultural Education 1.2 Training on Global Citizenship

5 People, Cultures and Bridges Project Goal 2 Contributing to the improvement of the welcoming and integration of foreign students or students with different socio-cultural experiences. Activities 2.1 Giving information on Espaço Cidadania and referral of cases reported by schools 2.2 Specific Training on Intercultural Education for Youth in Secondary Schools

6 People, Cultures and Bridges Project Goal 3 Promoting Portuguese language and facilitate their learning as second language or foreign Activities 3.1 Promoting scholarly exchanges by correspondence

7 People, Cultures and Bridges Project Goal 4 Creating interaction opportunities between schools in different locations Activities 4.1 Promoting the creation of twinning partnerships between schools. 4.2 Implementing Video conferences between teachers and students of schools in Seixal with schools of different countries (mostly from home countries of Seixal immigrant population).

8 People, Cultures and Bridges Project Goal 5 Raising awareness of school community about the importance of cultural diversity and the richness that it means for the Society and Individual Activities 5.1 Active participation of local schools in initiatives of intercultural promotion, including "Migrant Community Day" (April 26th). 5.2 Encouraging and supporting the creation of interculturalism promotion actions in schools.

9 People, Cultures and Bridges Project 5.3 Organizing workshops of traditional multicultural stories or other similar workshops. 5.4 Preparing briefcases with multicultural pedagogical content to provide to schools.

Providing intercultural training that enables local educators in the areas of intercultural communication, cooperation and diversity management in schools. Supporting the creation of partnerships / student exchanges. Promoting and creating moments of school exchange (video conferences, …)

12 People, Cultures and Bridges Project Exhibiting works made by students about migration, intercultural dialogue and MDGs - Millennium Development Goals. Supporting and monitoring projects of intercultural dialogue promotion in schools, with the involvement of local immigrant associations. Raising awareness and involving the business sector, non- governmental development organizations (NGDOs) and Public Institutions. Promoting awareness through campaigns and community mobilization. Developing pedagogical materials.
