As Questões Estruturais de Currículo orientam uma unidade de estudo e incluem Questões Essenciais, de Unidade e de Conteúdo. Elas ajudam os professores a centrar em tópicos importantes em seu currículo anual e trazem significado através das disciplinas: Elas levantam questões importantes entre as áreas de conteúdo (Matemática, Ciências, Literatura, História, etc.). Elas se centram em torno de questões importantes, problemas, dúvidas, interesses ou temas que também ocorrem em outras unidades.

Elas ajudam a engajar os alunos: As Questões Essenciais trazem significado e foco para o estudo de eventos e tópicos durante um projeto ou curso que de outra maneira podem parecer arbitrários ou não relacionados. Envolvem a imaginação do aluno e relacionam o assunto à suas próprias experiências e idéias. Não há nenhuma resposta correta óbvia, então os alunos são desafiados a explorar muitas possibilidades. Encorajam uma discussão e pesquisa aprofundada e estabelecem o estágio para um maior questionamento. Ajudam os alunos a comparar, contrastar e fazer analogias. As questões são relevantes, significativas, interessantes e escritas em uma linguagem adequada para o aluno e sua idade.
