8 The Gospel is never finished The story continues in our stories –through our stories of relationship with the Diocese of Sao Paulo To learn more…. What an amazing truth. The Gospel of Christ is being written out in our lives. You know what that means? Not just that we really can meet Christ in all people and all places but that OUR lives have the potential for greatness.That God can break through into human existence through us. That our lives can be the paper on which the story of the coming of God’s reign on earth is written. What an incredible honor. How incredibly exciting. Just as we can look at each of these stories and see Christ breaking through – in James emptying his cash box, in Mama Janifa quietly going without food day after day, in survivor and genocidaires working together to rebuild a nation and a life. Just as Christ breaks through in them, Christ can break through in us. What an incredible honor. How incredibly exciting…. And how utterly terrifying! Because there is a common denominator in these stories and when Christ breaks through in us and through us. And that common denominator is letting go. Letting go of everything that fools us into thinking we are self-sufficient and don’t need God. Letting go of all that we hold dear for the sake of God. Letting go of all the ways we continually hold back and shrink back because the risk is too high and we fool ourselves into thinking that good business sense and Gospel business sense are the same thing. Letting go of our fear, whatever that fear may be. These truths are amazing and incredible – but is there any wonder the disciples were terrified at the prospect of a risen Christ who told them that they ain’t seen nothin’ yet and that it was all just beginning for them. Because they knew what life in Christ was about. And it was about this: 8
