São usados após a preposição "by" significando "alone“ (sozinho) He killed those people by himself . I did everything by myself . She is studying by herself for the test . You confessed you had committed the murder by yourself. Para expressar que o sujeito realizou a ação sozinho.

São usados após uma preposição. Those girls are looking at themselves in the mirror . The old man was talking to himself . He's just interested in himself . She is dancing with herself . Neste caso o pronome reflexivo funciona como objeto da preposição e se refere ao sujeito da oração.
