2 O INGLÊS NA ESCÓCIA Inglês utilizado amplamente no país;
Pronúncia muito diferente do Standard British English, marcada pela roticidade (variação rótica); Forte influência de variações arcaicas do inglês (Old English), que por sua vez sofreu influência de línguas nórdicas; Os “sotaques” se tornam mais acentuados nas regiões rurais, conhecidas como Highlands; Palavras de origem gaélica são utilizadas com muita frequência, tornando as variações faladas na Escócia ainda mais singulares.

3 PECULIARIDADES FONÉTICAS
Intensa Roticidade (o som da letra “r” é mais enfático do que em outras variações róticas). Exemplo: Jim Kerr, from ‘Simple Minds’ ‘I’d like to think, without sounding arrogant, that, before Simple Minds in Glasgow, there certainly wasn’t music scene. There was a (sic) couple of artists of note, and…great artists – Alex Harvey, Frankie Miller, Average White Band – I’m talking about late ‘60s, early ‘70s – kind of hard-drinking, bluesy, whisky, working men’s industrial music. And, not only wasn’t there a scene in Glasgow…it had to be London or New York, this was before…’

4 Peculiaridades Lexicais
Uso de vocabulário incomum em outras variações da língua inglesa. Exemplos: Scotish English General English Portuguese dinnae, cannae, willnae don't, can't, won't wee small pequeno aye yes sim ken know saber, conhecer greet weep chorar, choro kirk church igreja Breeks pants calças lassie girl garota loch lake lago bairn child criança

5 Peculiaridades gramaticais
Uso de construções gramaticais diferentes quando comparada com outras variações. Exemplo: Scotish English General English 'Are you not going?' or 'Are you no going?' 'Aren't you going?' 'I'm away to my bed' 'I'm going to bed.'
