Para indicarmos superioridade em adjetivos curtos, normalmente acrescentamos –er ao final do adjetivo, com algumas alterações de grafia em alguns casos: Old + er older The Rolling Stones are older than U2. CDs are cheaper than DVDs. Cheap + er cheaper Heavy metal concerts are louder than jazz concerts. Loud + er louder Easy – y + ier easier Rock is easier to play than jazz. Football stadiums are larger than concert halls. Large – e + er larger Thin + n + er thinner Marcelo D2 is thinner than Ed Motta.
Superlatives Se quisermos destacar um elemento de um grupo, podemos usar as seguintes estruturas: the most + adjective superioridade The Beatles were the most popular band of all time. the least + adjective inferioridade The singer’s last album was the least successful of her career.
Expressamos superioridade nos adjetivos curtos com the –est, e as mesmas alterações de grafia já explicadas anteriormente: Red Hot Chilli Peppers is the craziest band I know. Casos especiais: good better best Buying originals is better than getting pirated music. “Morning Glory” is Oasis’ best album. worst bad worse His studio album is worse than his live album. This is the worst track on her CD.
old older/elder oldest/eldest My brother is older than me. My elder bother is a composer. The Stones are the oldest band I know. Eduardo is my eldest/oldest brother. far farther/further farthest/furthest Recife is further /farther from Salvador than Maceió. Japan is the furthest/the farthest country from Brazil.
