EXEMPLO 1 No espaço vetorial ℝ3, o vetor v = (-7, -15, 22) é uma combinação linear dos vetores v1 = (2, -3, 4) e v2 = (5, 1, -2) porque: v = 4v1 – 3v2

EXEMPLO 2 Considere os vetores u, v e w do espaço vetorial ℝ3
u = (1, 3, 0), v = (1, 0, 5) w = (1, 1, -2) Você pode operar com esses vetores e obter novos vetores do ℝ3 u – 2v + w u – 2v + w – 3u

EXEMPLO 3 Determine a combinação linear dos vetores 2(3, -4, 5) + 3(-1, 1, -2). Verifique se o vetor w = (1, 2) do ℝ2 pode ser resultado da combinação linear dos vetores u = (1, 3) e v = (-1, 2). Verifique se os vetores u = (1, 2, -1), v = (1, 3, 1) e w = (0, 1, 2) vetores do ℝ3 podem ser escritos como combinação linear do vetor t = (2, 7, 4).

Vetores linearmente independentes têm representação geométrica em direção distinta (vetores não colineares). Em caso contrário, se têm a mesma direção (vetores paralelos) são linearmente dependentes.
