O Passado contínuo é usado, basicamente, para descrever três tipos de ações:USOS
1. Aquelas que estavam ocorrendo num tempo dado no passado The girl was studyingin Greece in 1988. The girl was studying in Greece in 1988.
2. Aquelas que estavam ocorrendo num dado tempo do passado quando outra ação veio a ocorrer (interrompendo a ação anterior). Nesse caso, teremos duas sentenças:
Uma no passado contínuo ( a que se refere ao fato mais antigo) e outra no passado simples ( a que se refere ao fato mais recente). Geralmente utiliza-se, nesses casos, o conectivo when.
was studying The girl was studying in Greece WHEN the conflicts started.
3. Aquelas que estavam ocorrendo simultaneamente num tempo dado do passado. Neste caso, teremos sempre duas sentenças no passado contínuo e, geralmente, a presença do conectivo while.
The girl was studying in Greece WHILE the boy was working in Belgium.
FORMAÇÃO Affirmative: Subject + to be + verb + ing I was sleeping
Negative: Subject + to be + NOT+ verb + ing I wasnt sleeping WAS NOT = WASNT WERE NOT = WERENT
Interrogative: To be + subject + verb + ing? Were you sleeping?
