2 USOSO Passado contínuo é usado, basicamente, para descrever três tipos de ações:
3 Aquelas que estavam ocorrendo num tempo dado no passado The girl was studying in Greece in 1988.
4 2. Aquelas que estavam ocorrendo num dado tempo do passado quando outra ação veio a ocorrer (interrompendo a ação anterior). Nesse caso, teremos duas sentenças:
5 Uma no passado contínuo ( a que se refere ao fato mais antigo) e outra no passado simples ( a que se refere ao fato mais recente). Geralmente utiliza-se, nesses casos, o conectivo “when”.

7 3. Aquelas que estavam ocorrendo simultaneamente num tempo dado do passado. Neste caso, teremos sempre duas sentenças no passado contínuo e, geralmente, a presença do conectivo “while”.
