2 ABEC Founded in 1985 ; Stimulated and supported by Wilson Chagas Araújo Microbiologist/Science Administrator of FINEP. Chagas understood that journals were necessary for the development of science in developing countries; Program for the Support of Scientific Journals – FINEP/CNPq 1984 to present US$ 1,000,000/year for 100-150 journals Representatives of ABEC participate with CNPq and others in the analysis of requests.

3 ABEC Objectives Develop and improve the publication of scientific journals. Improve the communication of information. Maintain the exchange of ideas. Debate problems and defend common interests. Note: All areas of intellectual activity are included in the phrase scientific journals.
