2 1.Maintain an international scientific steering committee with the explicit participation of the international scientific community 2.Create a virtual institute with participation of all Amazonian countries and promote greater participation of those countries in LBA-2. 3.While still led by MCT, LBA-2 should increase the participation of MMA, MDA, MAPA, etc.. would facilitate the translation of LBA results into implementation of public policies for the Amazon region 4.The composition of the Directorate (Conselho Diretor) should include scientific institutions in the Amazon as, for example, INPA, MPEG and EMBRAPA. 5.The nomination of members for the Scientific Steering Committee should be made by scientific peers for the approval by the Directorate (Conselho Diretor) 6.Seminars with broad participation by the scientific community, should be convened to define the scientific agenda of LBA2. In particular, Human Dimensionsshould be maintained as a theme with a specific focus on the question of the causes of land use change in Amazonia.

3 Science questions for LBA-2 The three fundamental questions are –How does Amazonia currently function as a regional entity? –How will changes in land use and climate affect the biological, chemical and physical functions of Amazonia including its sustainability? –How will these changes in the Amazon influence the global climate?

Um Diretor Executivo baseado em um estado amazônico, escolhido por meio de Comitê de Busca e nomeado pelo Ministro da Ciência e Tecnologia, até três Diretores Adjuntos, de sua escolha e aprovados pelo Conselho Diretor, sendo ao menos dois baseados em estados amazônicos. Atribuições: Dirigir, coordenar e apoiar, por meio de um Escritório Central e Escritórios Regionais do Programa, a implementação e manutenção das atividades, incluindo o apoio logístico às atividades de campo, o sistema de dados e informações, o funcionamento de seus comitês e a realização de reuniões científicas e gerenciais. Um Diretor-Executivo, baseado no Escritório Cenral do LBA2, no INPA, escolhido por meio de Comitê de Busca e nomeado pelo Ministro da Ciência e Tecnologia, até três Diretores Adjuntos, de sua escolha e aprovados pelo Conselho Diretor, sendo ao menos dois baseados em estados amazônicos.
