The idea of this symposium comes from a long time. 2010, to be more exact. Started with a conference in Brazil which Itaipu attended. In this conference we heard all sort of complains about big hydro facilities and all the damage they do to the settlers, to the environment, to the surroundings. We then realized that the big hydro facilities had no exclusive forum from themselves, in which they could discuss the issues they are facing and that are so particular to them. Big hydro facilities are the most reliable supply of energy to the world as we know until this moment. And they have no room to discuss it. In this regard, we want to share with you some challenges we’ve been facing to maximize the energy production of Itaipu without putting aside the safety of the people, the assets and the surroundings. All started some years ago, when we, with all support of our high staff, realize that we could do more for the real owners of the plant, the Paraguayan and Brazilian societies, despite doing everything right in terms of our energy supply contract.
