MOCs: A 50-YEAR SCENARIO (Part 1) ...
Year 1: in the beginning … Instruction on an open, no-cost / low-cost basis to massive audiences Year 10: a new trend – and some issues. High Drop-out – typically ranging from 75% to as high as 95%, Lack of: Credentialing; Academic Integrity; Viable Financial Model Year 15: a new player in the game (“Organization X”). X adds courses that adults require to be employable in modern society Years 20-25: solutions to some earlier issues. Credentialing. X negotiates with national authorities; qualifications recognized Academic integrity. NSD in pass rates Org.X / conventional institutions Financial model. X forms private-public partnerships to share costs of program

MOCs: A 50-YEAR SCENARIO (Part 2)
Years 25 – 30: continuing high dropout rates. Of 6 million who start, about 240,000 take final exams and some 120,000 pass– 50% pass-rate; 2% of mass audience Years 30-32: two radical changes. 1. X eliminates the lecture format – the new lessons are more like theatre; the viewers participate “virtually” in tutorial sessions, discussions, etc. 2. Students are encouraged to join study groups led by trained facilitators. X trains thousands of facilitators. Years 32-50: sustained growth; recognition; integration
