REGRA GERAL: acrescenta-se ’s ao substantivo possuidor: “We used the Human Rights Act to challenge the police's failure and get justice. Without human rights, people like the women I represent wouldn't have anything to fall back on if their cases aren't investigated.” Quando o substantivo terminar em s, acrescenta-se apenas o ’: “Human rights exist to give people the power to challenge the wrongs in our society. We must unite against the Conservatives’ plan to strip away these protections.”

3 GENITIVE CASE SPECIAL CASES:
1. Nomes famosos terminados em s, acrescenta-se apenas o ’: Pay attention to Jesus’ words. II. Quando há dois ou mais possuidores: A) Se for algo comum a todos, acrescenta-se ’s ao último: I went to Mike and Andrew’s apartment. B) Se cada possuidor tiver um pertence distinto, acrescenta-se ’s em todos: I went to Mike’s and Andrew’s apartments.

4 GENITIVE CASE III. Pode-se omitir o substantivo quando for um lugar relacionado ao possuidor: They wanted to visit Westminster’s. (abbey) IV. Usa-se o ’s com certas expressões de tempo, peso ou espaço: It’s a two month’s journey.
