24 CONCLUSIONS 1) Mask of previous years deforestation (PRODES DIGITAL) is key to identify new deforestation (DETER Project) in current year 2) MODIS can provide rapid assessment of deforestation events but is not substitute for high-resolution analysis to estimate area 3) The quality control done by experient interpreters is important for the success of deforestation detection

25 OPERATIONAL ACTIVITIES OF DETER PROJECT 1) Analysis of MODIS daily image 2) New deforestation areas (weekly, monthly,...) 3) Incorporate methods as automated as possible 4) Send the information to IBAMA
