1. Desenvolvimento desigual – a expressão geográfica das contradições do capital

For Smith, except the fact that certain natural conditions favor the development of certain activities or the natural resources usages, it is, in fact, “the division of labor in society the historical basis of the spatial differentiation of levels and conditions of development” (2008:p. 135).

it is under the capitalist mode of production that the historical process of spatial differentiation acquires features never before found in other modes of production. Thus, according to Smith, the uneven development is, at least, the geographical expression of capital’s contradiction ....

According to Harvey.... the development of the capitalism economy of space is surrounded by opposing and contradictory trends. The spatial barriers and the regional distinctions need to be torn down. But the means to achieve this goal involve the production of new geographical differences, which create new spatial barriers to be overcome. The capitalism geographical organization internalizes the contradictions into the form of value. It is what is said the concept of inevitable capitalism uneven development. (1984: 417)
