Reported Speech or Indirect Speech Dircurso Indireto é o narradorusando suas próprias palavras para contar o que foi dito, mudando pronomes, tempos verbais e algumas palavras.

Direct Speech Indirect Speech She said, She said (that) Simple Past: She had a cute dog. Past Continuous: She was getting the bus. Past Perfect: She had gone to the beach. Past continuous: She was cooking dinner. She had been cooking dinner. Simple Present: “I have a cute dog.” Present Continuous: “I am getting the bus.” Simple Past: “I went to the beach.” Past Continuous: “I was cooking dinner.”

Direct Speech Indirect Speech She said, She said (that) Present Perfect: “I have paid the bill.” Past Perfect: “I had cleaned my room.” Simple Future: “I will miss the show. Simple Past: “I went to the beach.” Past Perfect: “She had paid the bill.” Past Perfect : She had cleaned her room. Future in the Past: She would miss the show. Simple Past: “I went to the beach.”

Reported Speech com Imperativo Imperativo afirmativo: The doorbell said to me: “Put your suitcases here.” The doctor told me to put my suitcases there. Imperativo negativo: The teacher said to them: “Don’t be afraid.” The teacher told them not to be afraid”

O verbo to tell é o mais usado para se fazer Reported Speech O verbo to tell é o mais usado para se fazer Reported Speech. Mas também pode-se usar os verbos: to order, to beg, to advise, to warn.

Verb TO TELL To tell a story/ a tale. = contar uma história ou conto. To tell a lie. = contar uma mentira. To tell the truth. = contar ou dizer a verdade. To tell the time. = dizer as horas. To tell the difference. = distinguir. To tell fortunes. = ler a sorte.

Click! Sempre que o verbo to say (que inicia o relato) estiver no Simple Present, Present Continuous, Present Perfect ou Simple Future, não haverá mudanças no tempo verbal da oração seguinte. He says He is saying, “I love apples.” He has said He will say He is saying (that) he loves apples.

Reported Speech with Questions They said, They asked “Where do you live?” “How many bikes did she ride?” “What have they done?” “Is she crying?” Will you excuse me? where I lived. how many bikes she had ridden. what they had done. If/whether she was crying. If/whether I would excuse them.

Além do verbo to ask, há outros verbos menos comuns, mas que também podem ser usados para fazermos a pergunta indireta. São eles: to inquire, to wonder, to want, to know. Com esses não se menciona o objeto indireto, a pessoa para quem se diz algo. Ex.: I wanted to know if you had a kid.
