Introduction This project aims to study the Sense of Community and the sense of safety of a group of resettled individuals living in the village of Rabo de Peixe, in the island of S. Miguel, Azores. Vulnerable housing conditions and socioeconomic problems of a considerable part of inhabitants living specific areas of the village have led the authorities to set forward the construction of new residential zones and the implementation of a resettlement program. The sense of community and safety are relevant here because the concept of relocation can present itself as a restructuring of everyday life, a whole set of practices related to means of residence of individuals and the level of neighborhood relations which underpins the transition and adaptation to a new framework for life (Cardoso, 1993). According Elvas and Moniz (2010) a greater sense of community, at individual level translates into higher levels of welfare, quality and life satisfaction, sense of justice and less loneliness. Buckner (1988) developed a measure of sense of community cohesion, with the intention of combining the sense of community to their neighborhood and social interaction between them. At the neighborhood a strong psychological feeling of community is associated with higher feelings of protection and security. Interpersonal relationships have been related to a greater or lesser sense of security. It has been associated with a greater sense of security for individuals with more social ties and good relations with others (Kruger, 2007). The main objectives of this study are to know if the Sense of Community and Security is present in the relocated people from Rabo de Peixe, and to try to find out if this feeling has changed among them. The sense of community and security is relevant in this case because the concept of relocation can present itself as a procedure that reshapes the habits of everyday life, in geographic and social terms. These individuals have to face a new perspective that may influence their feelings. 2. Methodology The sample in this study consists of ten adult individuals with a low education level and difficulties in reading and writing, from five different neighborhoods of the village of Rabo de Peixe; This will be an exploratory-descriptive study, based on a qualitative methodology discovery oriented. The technique adopted for collecting data is the semi-structured interview and Sense of Community Index 2 (SCI-2): Background, Instrument, and Scoring Instructions. This semi-structured interview was based on five dimensions: political, family, emotional, social and physical. Each dimension has a set of questions that regard to the study in question.
