Em inglês, existem duas formas de expressar o verbo haver (existir, ter).

Singular / uncountable affirmative negative interrogative short answers Singular / uncountable there is there isn’t Is there…? Yes, there is. No, there isn’t. plural there are there aren’t Are there…? Yes, there are. No, there aren’t.

There are + sustantivo plural There are some dogs. Há alguns cachorros. There is + sustantivo contable en singular y + sustantivo incontable There is a man. Há um homem. There isn’t any water. Não há água.

A = um, uma An = um, uma

AN + sustantivo singular em orações afirmativas, negativas e interrogativas quando o sustantivo começa por som vocálico There is an elephant. Há um elefante. A + sustantivo singular em orações afirmativas, negativas e interrogativas quando o sustantivo começa por som consonantal There is a car. Há um carro.

Articles a an Indefinite article or The indefinite article means ONE. It can only be used with singular countable nouns

“a” is used before consonant sounds. Ex.: a book, a chair, a key. “an” is used before vowel sounds. Ex.: an apple, an engineer, an umbrella. Exceptions: a university, a uniform “u” has the same sound as “y” - you (consonant)
