52 CONCEPT 1 For a successful class, the first thing that needs to be understood is that everyone absorbs content differently. When we move abroad, we are exposed to the language as it really is. Although we don’t understand 100% of what is said, we are still able to gradually learn. What we didn’t learn the first time, we learn later in another similar situation. For example, if my students don’t understand everything that is said or taught, I should help them so they don’t feel frustrated and make them understand that there will be another opportunity to review the material or participate in a similar activity. With this new version, the teacher is prepared to teach students of different levels in the same group.

53 CONCEPT 4 Focus on the students and their levels and not just on the content of the lesson. Many times, instructors and students commit the basic error of thinking that all of the material must be covered for the class to be considered a success. Let’s say that some students are of Intermediate-Mid level and that they are still having difficulties after several repetitions of a discussion class about the death penalty. In this situation, the mistake would be merely concentrating on understanding the text while ignoring immediate abilities. The text could be used to review structures and phrases and also used as a pretext to initiate conversation. Changes in technique are determined by students and their levels. To use the lesson as it was initially prepared without evaluation by the teacher is a very basic error.

55 DEPOIMENTO Comecei as aulas assim que cheguei do imersão. Estou com uma pequena turma de adolescentes de 10 anos. OS meninos são incríveis mas ainda não tinham estudado inglês em nenhuma escola. Antes de começar as aulas expliquei em português do orgulho de tê-los como meus alunos e que em todas as aulas eu precisaria da ajuda deles pra melhorar nossas aulas( como vc faz no final de todos os dias de imersão - assim os alunos se sentem parte)

56 avisei que o livro seria um grande aliado, mas que muitas vezes eles nem iam perceber o quanto estavam aprendendo porque brincaríamos....

57 Começamos nosso trabalho. Meu foco com eles é saberem os global task. E desde a primeira aula praticamos Talking about myself, my house, my family. E o incrível é que na última aula eu até chorei. Porque pudemos cronometrar os meninos falando e são rápidos, firmes e o mais engraçado é que eles acham que é normal uma pessoa com 7 horas/

58 aula falar o tanto que eles falam em parágrafo, sabem is/was/were/will be+ do did+ will. Vocabulário. Só sei q´e é um show.Estou apaixonada pelos 15 minutos do final de cada aula !!!! Por que antes eu fazia pra obedecer. Fazia pq se vc fala que é importante - eu sei que é importante, mas quando eu ví a aplicação dos 15 minutos intercalados nas aulas do dia de forma não linear a ficha caiu.

59 eu estudo de forma nao linear os 4 livros todos os dias um pouquinho e estou aprendendo e isto passo pro meus alunos. da mesma forma que faz com a gente e eu quis me preparar pro imersão de julho pra absorver o máximo que eu conseguir. Luciane de Taubaté
