O parecer deve ser cuidadoso: Introdução: histórico? Justificativa? Contexto teórico? Inovação proposta? Hipótese(s)/questão(ões)? Publicação: como revisar? Métodos: Adequados? Análises são apresentadas? Fatal flaw? No caso de um erro fatal, fica muito fácil rejeitar um trabalho e o parecer pode ser sucinto.

Publicação: como revisar? Reviewer #4: This manuscript measures the effects of burial depth and water depth on the sprouting of turions and early growth of M. oguraense subsp. yangtzense. The main hypothesis is that water depth and sediment burial can affect the emergence and overall size of these plants. This study is interesting, but I believe that the experimental design was not proper to ANOVA analysis. One of the ANOVA assumptions is independence of samples. However, their data appear not to be independent. It is difficult to determine how their data analysis was structured. I believe their data was pseudoreplicated. Thus, I think the experimental design presents a fatal flaw. At this point, I have concerns about the experiment was designed and I would recommend to reject this manuscript for publication. Parecer de um manuscrito submetido à Hydrobiologia: Reviewer #3: This paper aims at assessing the effects of light intensity on the response of the submerged macrophyte Vallisneria spiralis to biomass losses. This is a topical and interesting subject. Unfortunately, the experimental design used by the authors is unsuitable to properly compare the results obtained from the different light treatments. Indeed, all the plants submitted to a similar light intensity were grown in adjacent containers at the same side of the experimental site (cf. page 6 lines 13-15), i.e. the replicates for a given treatment are not independent. As a consequence, any uncontrolled factor across the experimental site could have influenced all the replicates of a given light treatment. Even if such an uncontrolled factor is very unlikely to have biased the experiment, this kind of procedure is not rigorous, and should not appear in articles published in international journals. A sound comparison between light treatments could have been achieved by setting an individual net on 9 randomly-chosen containers to obtain true replicates.

Publicação: como revisar? - Geral: O trabalho é adequado à revista? A língua é suficientemente compreensível? COM BASE NOS COMENTÁRIOS ACIMA, DÊ UM PARECER CONCLUSIVO.

Sugestão de parecer -Iniciar com um comentário geral sobre o trabalho; - Apresentar os principais pontos a serem considerados (principais críticas); -Listar os pontos de menor importância. -Emitir o parecer (aceitar, necessita grandes alterações, pequenas alterações, rejeitar) – pode ser acrescentado no início ou no final.

Publicação: como revisar? - Importante: Nunca dê um parecer sem substância: O trabalho está excelente e recomendo sua publicação. O trabalho contem erros e não tem qualidade para ser publicado na revista.

Dear Mrs. Evangelista, I have looked at your manuscript, JTE , entitled "Comparison of diversity indices applied to incidence-based data set of assemblages of aquatic macrophytes" which you submitted to the Journal of Tropical Ecology. I do not feel that your paper merits publication in JTE. To my mind there are already too many diversity indices, but more seriously getting a full paper out of analysing the performance of one particular index that offers little that is new with a fairly uninteresting dataset is a very unlikely proposition in any journal. … Rejections are common, we all know, but by telling that …fairly uninteresting dataset… (9 years in 235 stations = ca samplings) and that …is a very unlikely proposition in any journal sounds very strange. … you can talk on behalf of YOUR journal, not others… My point is that with such a negative point of view and telling that …is a very unlikely proposition in any journal, you can discourage young students, what unfortunately is very sad in science… I confess that we have received more intelligent and respectable reviews from several other more important journals such as Ecology, Oecologia, Ecography etc. … …I would expect much more from such an important scientist like you, leading an important journal like J. Trop. Ecol. I am sorry, but I also like being frank and attitudes like yours are very dangerous for young scientists. Sincerely,

Maioria dos artigos: - trazem conceitos corretos, dados justos e alguma informação Minoria dos artigos: - são grandes trabalhos com erros mínimos, ou maus trabalhos com erros fatais ASSIM, NÃO ESPERE ENCONTRAR MUITOS ARTIGOS DESSA ÚLTIMA CATEGORIA EM SUA CARREIRA!
